Sound Adapt

Adaptive surface modules for variable room acoustics

The R&D project “Sound Adapt” deals with the development of a kinetic surface, which can influence the acoustic parameters within buildings in a fast and precise way. Through the integration of shape memory alloys in agile structures, surfaces are tested in what way they can adapt their sound-absorbing properties by means of kinetic changes. Additional sensors in the form of microphones integrated into the surface structure and an adaptive control system will create a self-contained overall system which, unlike conventional mechanical solutions, will enable an acoustically variable use of space in an energy- and space-saving manner.
